Editor review
Tidal Shift is a beach-collection arcade with tide-timing mechanics. Wait for low tide to collect items; rush back before high tide returns. Forty levels with varying beach shapes.
What works is the tide-gauge visualisation. A clear meter at the top shows current tide level and direction. Players can plan collection runs based on the gauge.
Forty levels with progressively narrower windows. Late levels have very brief low-tide windows that require pre-planning the collection route before tide drops.
Tested over four Copenhagen S-train commutes between Norreport and Hellerup. Touch swipe is the natural input. Keyboard arrow keys also comfortable.
Where the design earns its rating is the level-shape variety. Some beaches are wide (long collection routes); others are narrow with hard-to-reach pockets. The shape variation keeps the format fresh.
Where I would push back is the absence of weather variation. All levels have calm conditions. Adding storm levels with shorter tide windows would have varied the format further.
Three-and-a-half stars. Solid tide-timing arcade with thoughtful visualisation. Worth playing for the format.
